The Ring of Creative Light or the Sun Ring
Cycle One
The Ring of Creative Light or the Sun Ring
The Ring of Creative Light, also known as the Sun Ring, is the first ring of the first cycle of the series This Too Shall Break. This ring is devoted to creative vitality, gratitude, and the act of recognizing light in another person. It was conceived as an expression of appreciation and love, honoring the way one person’s presence can illuminate another’s life and make self understanding possible. The ring exists as a marker of connection, creativity, and the sustaining force of love that allows growth, confidence, and generosity to emerge.
The ring is carved from Carrara Bianco marble. Made early in the artist’s journey with stone, it bears an imperfect polish, with a surface that remains slightly rough and gently pocked. The design is simple and direct, shaped with imprecise tools, allowing the hand of the maker to remain visible in the final form. Despite its early making, the ring remains pleasing to the touch, balancing softness with the honesty of its process.
This Too Shall Break is a series of thirteen cycles of thirteen stone rings. The project brings our idea of stone sculpture as large immutable things only to be shared in museums and public spaces down to earth. Each ring is small, delicate, and personal. It is a piece of wearable art which requires mindfulness for the wearer, changing the relationship between collector and art. These rings are not meant to be owned, but to be experienced, to grow with, and to take care of.
