The Ring of the Known Self

Blessed

The Ring of the Known Self is the tenth ring of the third cycle of the series This Too Shall Break. This ring is devoted to self awareness and the ongoing process of reflection required to truly know oneself. It acknowledges that identity is not fixed, but continuously shaped by experience, questioning, and growth. The ring exists as a companion to that process, honoring the discipline of reflection and the commitment to remain open to change as understanding deepens over time.

The ring is made of Belgium Black Marble, a rarer variety of marble, and presents as a deep jet black. It features two distinct finishes, with a matte polish on the band and a polished shine on the front. The design is intentionally simple, understated in form while remaining visually assertive. This contrast in finish and restraint in shape allows the material itself to carry the presence of the piece.

This Too Shall Break is a series of thirteen cycles of thirteen stone rings. The project brings our idea of stone sculpture as large immutable things only to be shared in museums and public spaces down to earth. Each ring is small, delicate, and personal. It is a piece of wearable art which requires mindfulness for the wearer, changing the relationship between collector and art. These rings are not meant to be owned, but to be experienced, to grow with, and to take care of.
